WSS 3.0 cannot upload multiple documents

I try to upload multiple documents into a library. It shows the progress and once completed it takes me back to the document library view with no documents uploaded. How do I upload multiple documents sucessfully. Am I missing something? Thanks

I keep getting this error when i try to search a custom list I created. I went into the central management and started the service within sharepoint and it is also running on the local machine. What else is left to do. Thanks
