Microsoft Exchange Writer problems with ArcServe R11.5 SP3

Hi Guys

We are using Arcserve R11.5 SP3 backing up an Exchange 2007 SP1.
I am trying to restore a database to recovery storage group but receive the following error:

AE9650: The volume shadow service provider has reported a bad state for the operation.
AE9709: Open file failed (err = 112).

I have been speaking to Arcserve support but they just say there is a problem with our exchange server.

They ran Vssadmin list writers and the Microsoft Exchange Writer is showing a status of failed. last error: retryable error.

If I restart the information store the state is stable. last error: No Error... but as soon as i try the restore the state will change back to failed and the job fails.

I am trying to recover to a recovery storage group i have created. We are running exchange 2007 SP1, all the latest updates using Microsoft update.

Any suggestions where to look at resolving this error?
